One Porsche 911, two concepts

March 20, 2008 · No Comments

Looking at the nearby car park and seeing yet another Carrera, I am reminded of a conversation I had had not so long ago with a Pole and a German.

Me:  Even though it is a German car, I am amazed at the popularity of the Porsche 911 in Cologne, they seem to have them in every colour too.

Polish guy:  Yes, we are starting to see them in Warsaw too. People really take it as a sign of wealth. Once they get enough money, they will buy one to show off their newly acquired status. Is it the same in Germany?

German guy:  Not quite. In Germany it is mostly an old people’s car. They think they will look younger if they drive a 911. Also, they have to wait until they can finally afford it: it is a bit of a kid’s dream come true.

Makes me wonder what it feels like to be an old kid.

Snap (german licence plate)

February 9, 2008 · 2 Comments

Third time’s a charm: this time I saw the car AND I had my camera at hand.

It is not the same car as the one J spotted back in September, but this sure must be a popular licence plate in Bitburg.

Edit 17/02/08:

Some people do have happier licence plates, though:

2.0

October 19, 2007 · No Comments

At long last, I have been upgraded to 2.0.

Not the computer thing, the litres that come under my bonnet. Nothing really exciting, but after a year of “Ol’Granpa” (nice, reliable, dead slow), “Nice-engine-wrong-brand”, and “The Punishment” (if the steering wheel had been in option, I would not have had one), I feel I deserve my 2.0L and 6 speeds.

Yay! Almost ready for some German road action now.

But tonight, I am going out, and I am taking this set of wheels:

KVB, runs all night, can’t beat it.
